Hostels

For the freshers(first yearites), boys stay in 'Gajjar Bhavan', hostel number 4.

Followed by either 'Nehru Bhavan' or 'Tagore Bhavan' during the second year. For the elite few (top 50 or so).. they get to stay at 'Bhabha Bhavan'.

For third and final yearites.. Its either the 'Swami Vivekanand Bhavan' or the 'Bhabha Bhavan'.

First off.. The rooms.. The rooms sizes are good enough for either a single or double seating, except in 'Tagore Bhavan' where they are exceptionally small.

For first yearites, it is compulsory to have a double seater room.. But from second onwards, double seating or single seating is completely your option.

Cleanliness is held in high regard in all hostels, the wardens along with the hostel boys and cleaning staff try their best to keep all surrounding clean. Room cleaning takes place thrice a week. (Sweeping and Mopping).

In Gajjar Bhavan (H-4), you will have two beds, two study tables and one cupboard for the two occupants.
Rest of the hostels, will have one/two beds, one study table and wall cupboards.
A study light and fan are equipped is all rooms.
Rooms in 'Bhabha Bhavan' and 'Swami Vivekanand' have balconies.
Laundry is available to all hostels for Rs. 10 per pair (washing and ironing).
(note - you'll have to do dedicates yourself.. so learn to wash your stuff before coming).
You will be handed a code of conduct book at the time of admission for rest of the information regarding your stay at the hostel, do read this thoroughly.
The washrooms are of course a nightmare during the mornings.. There are western type of toilets available at all hostels except 'Tagore Bhavan'.

p.s - By now you must be thinking that 'Tagore Bhavan' with its small rooms and indian toilets must be the worst hostel.. You are mistaken.. Its your friends who make up your hostel life and you will frankly experience stuff here that you'll never have encountered before and will definitely never experience later..

NOTE - You are not allowed to keep any sort of motorized vehicle with you near the hostel, all vehicles must strictly be parked in the parking space provided near the front gate ONLY!

Breakfast, lunch and dinner is provided at all hostels and the menu is decided by the elected HMC (Hostel Member Comitee).
(p.s the food is pretty much always terrible.. the food here will definitely make you yearn for your mom's cooking)
A canteen is also available which is overcrowded only during the lunch time and serves pretty decent food.
Night canteen is also available at most of the hostels and 'Bhabha Bhavan' has evening canteen as well.
Luckily, SVNIT is an urban campus, since the city expanded and all kinds of food are easily available within a 10 minutes auto ride!! :D (take note foodies.. this is the college for you if you're okay with paying for eating outside)
